Studio Life Lately
Logos
I've been working on a lot of hand-lettered logos for some amazing clients that are on the precipice of launching their brand! I love helping creative small business owners' visions come to life. I also really enjoy working with brand designers & their clients that are looking for custom, hand-written, script logos. I find the most successful logos come from clients that have already worked through all their branding questions, and really know who they are and what they want.
Here's a process snapshot of a logo I worked on with Ashley & Malone | Branding & Web Design. She is an amazing high-end brand designer and she's reached out to me a few times when she's had clients looking for that custom hand-made type feel. The process is wonderful because she has already worked with the clients to nail down the vision of their brand and then she sends me beautifully curated inspiration boards and direction - making my job much more streamlined & fun!
For this specific project the feel was very modern and colorful. I've included some shots of my sketching/ideation stage (I used a Tombow Dual Brush Pen), the cleaned up digital version (I do most clean up work in Photoshop), and then a snapshot of the final logo Ashley created utilizing some of my hand-lettered elements!
I love this project because it shows the potential in collaboration and teaming together our strengths to create one totally amazing logo!
Here are a couple glimpses of some other logos I've been working on lately that have yet to launch. I can't wait to see everything once it comes together!
Wedding Invitations & Envelopes
I work with some seriously amazing brides with perfect style! My ideal bride is free-spirited and creative and none of my current/recent projects disappoint! Each project has been beautifully different, from traditional gold calligraphy on creme and blush envelopes, to a more loose and modern copperplate in a stunning bronze on cotton creme envelopes, to even bright white brush-lettering on forest green and kraft envelopes!
I've fallen in love with watercolor again. I had to take different watercolor courses during my BFA program and I loved it then and haven't really picked it up again until recently. I'm participating in The 100 Day Project and concentrating on watercolor - my specific hashtag is #100daysofwatercolor, and I'm having a blast. I know I'll have to start getting creative and I'm excited to push my boundaries and see how I grow. I remember when I committed to daily calligraphy, how much and even how quickly I saw improvement! And lucky for me, I've been able to partake in some amazing styled shoots, which has allowed me to really showcase my love of watercolor and brush-lettering!
Nib Holders
I realized that I haven't really talked much about our little nib holder shop that my husband and I run! Don't worry, I'll definitely start showing you behind the scene glimpses into the workshop. I really want to make a little process video! We love this extension of my business, much to our surprise it took off from the beginning and we're growing and learning and are stoked to see where this goes! I'm currently working on a few custom pens - and it makes me so happy to be able to incorporate my love of painting & watercolor into these pens. I haven't seen too many female nib holder makers, (but I have seen lots of female nib holder buyers!) and I love that I can put my own feminine, artistic spin on these. We both really enjoy working on traditional holders and also creating more modern, fine-art styled holders.
